PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Penn Invitational on Saturday. The meet was held at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania.
The men’s 4x400 meter relay won with a time of 3:17.34 which was a Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships qualifier. The ECAC time requirement for the championships is 3:24.00. The relay consisted of Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Ali Ejaz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami). In the 400 meters, Rooks took second place in 48.34. His time was a NCAA provisional (48.50). Maxwell came in fourth (49.29) while Purdue was ninth (49.51). All three qualified for the 400 meters (50.10) at the ECAC Championships.
Steven Iafrate (fr. Closter, NJ/Demarest) was the winner in the javelin with a toss of 191’ 3” (58.29 meters). He surpassed the ECAC qualifier of 179’ 1” (54.60 meters). Joe Carmichael (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) took fourth place with 162’ 9” (49.61 meters) and Scott Baron (fr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) was 10th (142’ 7”, 43.46 meters). Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) produced a fifth place in the long jump with 21’ (6.40 meters). Adam Diekewicz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) tied for sixth in the pole vault (13’ 5.25”, 4.10 meters).
Marcus Rawls (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) took ninth (11.23) in the 100 meters and 18th (22.97) in the 200 meters. Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) finished 12th (16.63) in the 110 meter hurdles and 13th (58.22) in the 400 meter hurdles. Frank Visconti (sp. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was 10th in the shot put. He had a throw of 43’ 0.5” (13.12 meters). Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) ran the 1500 meters in 4:02.16 for 16th place. Jeff Terebey (sr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) was 18th (15:54.69) in the 5000 meters and Steven Hoffman (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) came in 27th (16:35.04).
The Prof women had several ECAC qualifiers. Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) had a time of 4:42.38 in the 1500 meters for fifth. Her time was better than the ECAC standard of 4:48.00. Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) registered a ECAC qualifier (16.34) in the 100 meters hurdles. She finished ninth with a time of 15.56. Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) set ECAC qualifiers in the 100 (12.80) and 200 (26.30) meters. She was eighth (12.60) in the 100 meters and 16th (26.29) in the 200 meters.
The women’s 4x800 meter relay had a fourth place in 9:53.27 with Peacock, Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Jenn Rawls (so. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) and Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.). The 4x100 meter relay finished eighth (50.87) and its time was better than the ECAC qualifier (51.00). The 4x100 consisted of Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), DeGuzman, Beverlee Brownlee (so. Mt. Holly, NJ/Willingboro) and Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.). The 4x400 meter relay ran a time of 4:10.93 and was seventh. Thompson, Stapleton, Brownlee and Carlson were on the 4x400.
Ashlee Petroski (fr. Verona, NJ/Verona) took seventh (1:09.62) in the 400 meter hurdles. Carlson finished 11th (15.60) in the 100 meter hurdles. She also had a fourth place (35’ 10.75”, 10.94 meters) in the triple jump and was seventh (16’ 7”, 5.05 meters) in the long jump.
Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) tied for fourth in the high jump with a height of 5’ 0.25” (1.53 meters). Thompson took fifth in the long jump with 16’ 10.75” (5.15 meters). Sarah Dores (fr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) threw the javelin 107’ 6” (32.77 meters) for sixth place. In the discus, Jessica Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) was ninth (110’ 5”, 33.65 meters) followed by Tempeste Johnson (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) 10th (106’ 1”, 32.33 meters) and Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) 14th (92’ 10”, 28.30 meters). Spieker and Stephanie Greco (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) were 11th (104’ 7”, 31.89 meters) and 12th (101’ 8”, 30.99 meters) respectively in the hammer. Lomanaco came in 17th (30’ 5.75”, 9.29 meters) in the shot put and Arielle Moore (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) was 19th (28’ 8.50”, 8.75 meters).
Catenacci had a 12th (2:26.86) place in the 800 meters. Stapleton was 13th (1:02.18) in the 400 meters. Rawls took 13th (4:55.24) in the 1500 meters. In the 5000 meters, Joy Hanke (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished 16th (19:17.31) while Ashlee White (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and Megan Borz (fr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) were 19th (19:28.77) and 22nd (19:41.16) respectively.
Next week, the Profs host the Rowan Open on Friday, April 8. The hammer and javelin begin at 2 p.m. and the remaining field events follow at 3 p.m. The running events start at 3:15 p.m.
