Rowan Defeats The College of New Jersey, 2-1 For Top Seed In NJAC Tournament

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated The College of New Jersey, 2-1 in the last conference game of the regular season.  The Profs finished undefeated in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with an 8-0 mark.

Rowan, ranked third in the NCAA South Atlantic Region, has a 13-3 record with an 11-game win streak.  TCNJ is 10-3-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference.  This week, the Lions are fifth in the South Atlantic Region Ranking.  In the NJAC Championship Tournament, Rowan is the top seed while TCNJ is second.  Both teams receive a first round bye on Saturday, October 29.

Midfielder Evynn Wright (sr. Marlton, NJ/Eastern Reg.) scored the winning goal at 56:24 with an assist from forward Veronica Rhea (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI).  Rhea crossed the ball from the center of the field to Wright on the right side of the Lions’ net.  Wright’s shot hit the lower right corner.

At 46:12, TCNJ midfielder Brittany McGinley (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) tied the score at one. She knocked in a rebound after goalie Maria Dorris (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) stopped a shot by forward Katie Lindacher (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.).  Rhea had the Profs’ first goal at 16:56.  She headed in a corner kick by midfielder Nina Fragoso (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.).

TCNJ registered 24 total shots and Rowan had eight.  Dorris ended the game with seven saves.  Goalkeeper Cristina Gacos (fr. Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) made two saves for the Lions.
