GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team rolled over conference opponent Ramapo College, 9-0 on Monday night. The Profs have a 10-game win streak.
Midfielders Veronica Rhea (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) and Dayna Saklasky (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) each scored two goals. Midfielder Christie Fink (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) contributed with one goal and three assists. Midfielders Evynn Wright (sr. Marlton, NJ//Eastern Reg.) and Victoria Camera (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.), forward Erika Suhl (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) and back Marina Mangano (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) all hit the net one time. Midfielder Chelsea Eckel (fr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) chipped in with one assist.
The Profs are 12-3 overall and 7-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). In last week’s NCAA Region Rankings, Rowan was second in the South Atlantic Region. The Roadrunners have a 3-11-2 record with a 1-6 conference mark.
Rowan totaled 26 shots while Ramapo had nine. Goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini (jr. Elmer, NJ/A.P. Schalick) played the first half in the Profs’ net. Goalkeeper Maria Dorris (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) stopped one shot in 32:03. Goalkeeper Jillian Brannan (sr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) made two saves in the final 12:57. For the Roadrunners, Talia Auslin (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) turned away six shots.
Rhea started the scoring at 7:58. She hit the lower right corner of the net after a long pass into the box from Fink. At 14:26, Fink blasted a shot from the top of the box that went off Auslin’s hands for a 2-0 advantage. Suhl collected the third goal (19:57) when her shot deflected off a Ramapo defender into the net. Fink picked up the assist. Rhea registered her second goal, 1:45 later and Fink assisted. Sakalsky ended the first half with an unassisted goal at 33:30. She hit the lower left corner with a shot from the right side.
In the second period, Mangano had an unassisted goal at 50:20 with a high shot from the center of the box. Wright followed (52:30) when she knocked in a deflection on a cross. Sakalsky’s second goal came at 64:29. With 12:35 remaining, Camera headed in a cross by Eckel for the last goal.
Rowan ends the regular season at home against The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, October 26 at 5 p.m. The winner of the game will be the number one seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament and the loser, the second seed.
