Rowan Rolls Over Western Connecticut State, 51-14

GLASSBORO, NJ – Quarterback Louie Bianchini threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns to lead Rowan University to 51-14 win over Western Connecticut State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

The Profs improve to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.  The Colonials have a 0-4 record with a 0-3 NJAC mark.  Bianchini (so. West Long Branch, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) had 16 completions in 26 attempts.  He also rushed for 83 yards on nine carries.  Running back Steve Hevalow (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 20 rushes.  Wide receiver Eddie Eisenhart (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made four catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.  Wideout Anthony Barone (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) chipped in with 27 yards and a touchdown on three receptions.  Tight end Kevin DelleDonne (sr. Summit, NJ/Summit) added two grabs for 21 yards and one touchdown.

Linebackers Moe Ghotok (jr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) and Dominic Caruso (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and safety Casey Dillon (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) all registered nine tackles.  Ghotok also had a 79 yard interception return for a touchdown and 1.5 tackles for a loss (-3 yards).  Caruso tallied 1.5 tackles for a loss (-6 yards).  Defensive tackle Steve Williams (jr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) posted eight tackles (three solo, five assisted), 1.5 tackles for a loss (-6 yards), one sack (-5 yards) and one forced fumble.  Linebacker Dean Hammel (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) made eight stops (three solo, five assisted).  Cornerback Frank Rubino (jr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) recorded two interceptions, while cornerbacks Mookie Holland (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville), Mark Kinney (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.), Sean Carroll (Southampton, NJ/Seneca) and Danny Curtis (fr. Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) all had one.

For Western Connecticut State, quarterback Hime Rraci (fr. Cross River, NY/John Jay) was 12 of 34 for 164 yards and one touchdown.  He had eight rushes for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Running back Dion Small (so. Waterbury, CT/Crosby) ran for 143 yards on 45 touches.  Wide receiver Will Arndt (fr. Newtown, CT/Newtown) contributed with 105 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.

Linebacker Bill Birdsell (so. Bethel, CT/Bethel) recorded a game-high 11 tackles (six solo, five assisted).  Linebacker Greg Galasso (sr. Brewster, NY/Brewster) tallied 10 stops (four solo, six assisted) and one tackle for a loss (-4 yards).  Safety Tyrell Ballard (jr. Bridgeport, CT/Fairfield Prep) had one interception.  Cornerback Tom Lacey (so. Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood Ridge) forced a fumble.

On the first drive of the first quarter, Rowan went ahead, 7-0 at 13:23 on a five yard touchdown carry by Hevalow.  The Profs started on their own 47 yard line.  Hevalow had two rushes for 10 yards, while Bianchini ran for 36 yards on one attempt.  He also completed a seven yard pass in the drive.  Western Connecticut State tied the game (7-7) at 8:22 following a seven yard touchdown reception by Arndt.  Rraci completed two of four passes for 27 yards.  Small added 24 yards on four rushes. 

The Profs took a 14-7 lead after a 15 yard touchdown grab by Barone at 12:31 in the second stanza.  Bianchini threw for 38 yards and ran for 23.  At 5:26, kicker Tommy Wilczynski (so. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) nailed a 30 yard field goal to push the advantage to 10 (17-7).  Hevalow had three carries for 35 yards.  With 2:47 remaining, DelleDonne hauled in a seven yard touchdown catch.  Bianchini’s 58 yard toss to Eisenhart set up the scoring play after Rubino’s interception gave Rowan the ball.  At the 57 second mark, Rraci broke free on a 34 yard touchdown scamper to bring the Colonials within 10 (24-14) at the intermission.

In the third period, Eisenhart’s 20 yard touchdown reception made the score, 31-14 at 9:25.   Hevalow rushed for 20 yards on three carries.  At 4:11, Hevalow found the end zone with a 16 yard touchdown run.  Rowan started on the Western Connecticut 46 yard line after an interception by Kinney.  Wide receiver Jahseer Bronson (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) and running back Tyson Still (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville) had 17 and 13 yards on the ground respectively.

Ghotok’s 79 yard interception return for a touchdown at 10:15 in the fourth put Rowan ahead, 44-14.  The PAT attempt was no good.  With 2:47 left to play, running back Matt Dortch (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) scored on a one yard run.  In the drive, he rushed for 63 yards on 11 carries.
