POMONA, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team won 5-0 over Wilkes University at the Richard Stockton College Classic. It was the Profs’ third straight shutout on the season.
On Sunday, Richard Stockton meets New York University at 3 p.m. in the second game. In the first round on Saturday, Rowan shut out New York University, 3-0 and Richard Stockton defeated Wilkes, 2-1.
Midfielders Marina Mangano (so. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) and Evynn Wright (jr. Marlton, NJ/Eastern Reg.) each scored two goals. Forward Jess Babice (sr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) contributed with one goal and one assist. Midfielder Leah Carney (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and forward Veronica Rhea (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) registered one assist apiece.
Rowan (3-0) took 15 shots and Wilkes (1-2) only had two. In the Profs’ net, goalie Jillian Brannan (jr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) made two saves for the shutout. For Wilkes, goalkeeper Samantha Rohn (so. Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) stopped five shots in 78:24 and goalie Sam Lindo (fr. Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) had one save in 11:36.
Wright put the Profs up 1-0 in the first half. She scored at 44:57 with an assist from Carney. Babice recorded the second goal (49:48) assisted by Rhea. Mangano’s first goal came at 76:39 on a feed from Babice. Wright and Mangano recorded unassisted goals at 78:24 and 89:33 respectively.
Next weekend, Rowan travels to Fredericksburg, VA for the University of Mary Washington Soccer Classic. On Saturday, September 11, Rowan plays Mary Washington at 1 p.m. followed by Emory University against Bridgewater College at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, September 12, Rowan faces Emory at 1 p.m. while Bridgewater and Mary Washington have a game at 3:30 p.m.
