GLASSBORO, NJ – The Eastern University field hockey team defeated host Rowan University, 3-2 on Thursday night.

The Eagles, ranked ninth in the nation, have a 9-1 record with an eight-game win streak. The Profs are 6-4 overall and they are 14th in the national rankings.

Forwards Jess Jaindl (fr. Quartertown, PA/Christopher Dock) and Brittany Moyer (so. Telford, PA/Christopher Dock) and midfielder Kelby Bolton (so. Souderton, PA/Christopher Dock) each scored one goal for Eastern. Forward Yvonne Herbster (jr. Middleburg, PA/Midd-West) had an assist.

For Rowan, forward Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and midfielder Rachael Dix (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) both contributed with a goal. Forward Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) registered two assists and midfielder Janna Tighe (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gateway Reg.) added one.

Rowan totaled 17 shots and Eastern had nine. In the Eagles’ cage, Laura Ressler (sr. Media, PA/Delaware County Christian) made seven saves. Prof goalie Lisa Apt (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped three shots in 40:39. Goalie Jen Goldberg (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) played the remaining 29:21 and had one save.

Eastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals at 4:14 and 8:25. Jaindl scored first when she tipped in a pass by Herbster. Bolton’s goal came on a penalty stroke.

In the second half, Dix put Rowan on the scoreboard at 38:08. She knocked in a cross from Cairone. Moyer made the score 3-1 (38:59) when she blasted a shot just inside the circle into the lower left corner of the cage. Valianti scored the Profs’ final goal at 62:08 on a penalty corner by Cairone to Tighe.

Rowan’s next game is against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, October 2. The
6 p.m. game will be played at Montclair State University.
