GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the Rowan Open on Friday, April 9.
Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) won the 1500 meters with a time of 4:47.57. Raneeka Doharty (so. Orange, NJ/Orange) and Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) placed third (5:10.42) and fourth (5:11.56) respectively. Ashley White (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was the winner in the 5000 meters (18:56.35), followed by Danielle Czohla (so. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) second (19:21.61).
Tiffany Chamberlain (fr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.), Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) and Rose Johnson (so. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) came in first (15.10), second (15.31) and third (15.79) respectively in the 100 meter hurdles. In the 400 meter hurdles, Chamberlain was first (1:08.92), Nisbett took fourth (1:13.42) and Heather Carbone (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) was fifth (1:14.21). Johnson had a fourth place in the high jump with 4’ 7.75” (1.42 meters). In the 800 meters, Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) captured second (2:29.88), while Alli Catenacci (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was fifth (2:39.73).
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Czohla were first (11:15.06), second (12:01.84) and third (12:30.83) respectively. Amirah Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) came in third place in the 400 meters (1:01.17).
Heidi DeGuzman (so. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) was third in the 200 meters (26.68) and Sylvia Mosley (so. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) took fifth (27.02). DeGuzman and Mosley finished sixth (12.74) and seventh (12.84) respectively in the 100 meters. Vicky Tench (fr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) captured fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 113’ 1” (34.48 meters). Stephanie Greco (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) had a sixth place in the shot put (29’ 10.75”, 9.11 meters). Tempeste Johnson (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) came in sixth in the discus with 96’ 1” (29.28 meters).
The women’s 4x100 meter relay of DeGuzman, Beverlee Brownlee (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro), Muneer and Mosley took second with a time of 49.86.
For the men, Kyle Hayes (jr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) won the long jump with a distance of 23’ (7.01 meters) which was better than the NCAA provisional (22’ 11.75”, 7.00 meters). Sean Corey (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) captured first place in the javelin with a throw of 206’ (62.78 meters). He previously earned an automatic qualifier with a distance of 215’ 3” (65.61 meters) at the Wake Forest Open (Mar. 19).
Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) won the 1500 meters (4:12.60) and Mike Carotenuto (fr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) followed third (4:15.03). Stephen Hoffman (so. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) finished third in the 5000 meters (17:01.88). Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (15.36), while Kurt Carlson (fr. S. Plainfield, NJ/S. Plainfield) was sixth (16.13). In the 400 meter hurdles, Gauntt and Benjamin Bradley (jr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) were sixth (1:01.40) and seventh (1:01.49) respectively.
Matt Tholis (so. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) was second in the javelin with 203’ 2” (61.93 meters). Sean Biehn (sr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) and Anthony Ruggeri (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) were third (199’ 7”, 60.84 meters) and sixth (181’ 6”, 55.32 meters) respectively. Biehn and Tholis both recorded NCAA provisional throws (189’ 7”, 57.80 meters). Pierre James (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) finished fourth in the shot put with 47’ 1” (14.35 meters). He was followed by Joseph Carmichael (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) sixth (45’ 3.75”, 13.81 meters).
Mark Lisa (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) captured second place in the long jump (22’ 6.5”, 6.87 meters), followed by TJ Pratt (fr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) fourth (22’ 4.25”, 6.81 meters). Brian Makinson (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) took third in the high jump with 5’ 10” (1.78 meters). Adam Diekewicz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) was third in the pole vault (12’ 11.75”, 3.96 meters).
Brandon Taylor (fr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) placed fourth in the 100 meters (11.36). He was also eighth in the 200 meters (23.96). Jayce Maxwell (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) came in seventh in the 400 meters (52.38). Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.90.
Rowan travels to the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships on Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18.
