EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Lions’ Invitational on Saturday. The meet was held at The College of New Jersey. Sean Corey finished 12th in the college javelin throw at the Penn Relays.

Kyle Hayes (jr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) took first in the long jump with a leap of 23’ 2.75” (7.08 meters). His distance was a NCAA provisional (22’ 11.75”, 7.00 meters). Sean Biehn (sr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) had a first place in the javelin with 197’ 3” (60.12 meters). His throw was a NCAA provisional (189’ 7”, 57.80 meters). He posted a better NCAA provisional of 199’ 7” (60.84 meters) at the Rowan Open (Apr. 2). Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) won the 5000 meters with a time of 15:15.03.

In the field events, Pierre James (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) came in third (47’ 7.75”, 14.52 meters) in the shot put. James also had a ninth place (135’ 2”, 41.20 meters) in the discus. In the javelin, Matt Tholis (so. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) took fourth place (187’ 10”, 57.26 meters) and Anthony Ruggeri (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) followed fifth (187’ 9”, 57.22 meters). Mark Lisa (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) finished fifth in the long jump with 21’ 11” (6.68 meters). Adam Diekewicz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) was tied eighth (13’ 5.25”, 4.10 meters) in the pole vault. Giuseppe Mineo (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) tied for ninth (5’ 10.75”, 1.80 meters) in the high jump.

Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) came in fourth (15.05) in the 110 meter hurdles and sixth (54.90) in the 400 meter hurdles. Brandon Taylor (fr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) had a fourth place in the 100 meter dash (11.23) and Cody High (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) was 10th (11.55). Jeff Terebey (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) took eighth in the 1500 meters (4:09.78). Kurt Carlson (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) had a 12th place (16.21) in the 110 meter hurdles and Benjamin Bradley (jr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) was 18th (58.14) in the 400 meter hurdles. Taylor finished 19th in the 200 meters (23.29).

In the 400 meters, Taylor Purdue (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) was 17th (52.26) while Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Brian Makinson (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) were 21st (53.24) and 22nd (53.41) respectively. Michael Carotenuto (fr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) came in 20th (16:10.55) in the 5000 meters. Brian Quilty (jr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) was 22nd (4:18.90) in the 1500 meters. The men’s 4x400 meter relay had a sixth place (3:33.48) with Purdue, Huddy, Daniel Collier (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Makinson.

For the women, Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) took second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:39.25) and Danielle Czohla (so. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) came in fourth (11:59.51). Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) finished 13th in the 400 meters (1:01.69). In the 1500 meters, Raneeka Doharty (so. Orange, NJ/Orange) and Jones were 14th (4:59.18) and 15th (5:00.08) respectively. Doharty was also 17th in the 800 meters (2:27.69).

At the Penn Relays, Corey (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) threw 197’ 4” (60.15 meters). He was 12th out of 28 competitors. His throw was a NCAA provisional (189’ 7”, 57.80 meters). Corey already has a NCAA automatic (205’ 1”, 62.50 meters). He recorded a toss of 215’ 3” (65.61 meters) at the Wake Forest Open (Mar. 19). His automatic is the second best throw in the nation.

Next week, Rowan will travel to the Princeton Elite Meet on Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m.
