GLASSBORO, NJ – Quarterback Tim Hagerty threw two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Rowan University to a 34-21 victory over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Morrisville State in its Homecoming game on Saturday afternoon.
Rowan improves to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference. Morrisville State has a 1-7 record with a 1-6 NJAC mark.
Hagerty (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) finished the game with 16 completions in 30 attempts for 234 yards. He rushed for 59 yards on nine carries. Wide receiver Myles Drummond (fr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) made eight receptions for 102 yards and one touchdown. Running back Keith Corcoran (so. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) ran for 58 yards and one TD on 18 touches. He also had two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown.
The Profs’ defense limited the Mustangs to 215 yards of total offense (150 passing and 65 rushing). Linebacker Jerome Gordon (sr. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) led the way with 10 tackles (six solo, four assisted). Defensive ends Kyle Kane (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) and Matt Hoffman (sr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) registered seven stops apiece. Hoffman also had one tackle for a loss (-3 yards) and a pass breakup. Linebacker Patrick Ruley (so. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) tallied two sacks (-14 yards). Wideout Khalil Wallace (fr. Woodbine, NJ/Millville) forced a fumble and cornerback Frank Rubino (so. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) recovered it. Cornerback Mark Kinney (jr. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.) had a 50 yard interception return.
For Morrisville State, quarterback Joe Shue (sr. Phoenix, NY/G Ray Bodley) threw for 150 yards and one TD, completing 12 of 26 passes. Wide receiver Kyle Gordon (sr. Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) hauled in a 70 yard touchdown grab. Running backs Peter Enriquez (sr. Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and Sean Barrett (sr. Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) ran for 33 (seven carries) and 31 (21 touches) respectively. They both had one touchdown rush.
Linebacker Anthony Brown (jr. Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) compiled a game-high 13 tackles (four solo, nine assisted) and had one tackle for a loss (-1 yard). Linebacker Enrique Robinson (so. St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) totaled eight tackles (two solo, six assisted), one tackle for a loss (-5 yards) and one pass breakup. Defensive ends Sam Pelham (sr. Voorheesville, NY/Clayton A. Bouton) and Dexter Galette (jr. Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) posted seven tackles apiece. Pelham added two sacks (-13 yards). Defensive tackle Craig Brennan (jr. Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) contributed with a fumble recovery.
At 8:20 in the first quarter, Barrett put Morrisville State up 7-0 with a two yard touchdown run. The Mustangs put together a 12 play, 46 yard scoring drive. Defensive back Walter Miles’ (fr. Coram, NY/Longwood) 39 yard kickoff return gave Morrisville State the ball on the Rowan 46 yard line. Shue rushed for 13 yards and threw for 12. At 7:24, Hagerty fumbled the ball and Brennan recovered it, giving the Mustangs the ball on the Profs’ 25 yard line. On first down, Shue threw a 21 yard pass to wide receiver AJ Latta (fr. Middletown, NY/Pine Bush). Enriquez had a four yard touchdown rush on the next play to put Morrisville State ahead 14-0 at 6:51.
Corcoran got Rowan on the scoreboard with a seven yard touchdown run at 2:34. In the 11 play, 74 yard drive, Hagerty completed three passes for 63 yards. With 23 seconds left, Morrisville punter Peter Mars (fr. Phoenix, NY/Birdlebaugh) stepped out of the back of the end zone on a punt attempt for a safety.
Hagerty threw a 19 yard TD pass to Drummond at 7:54 in the second period. Rowan started on the Morrisville State 35 yard line. Hagerty had a 16 yard carry prior to the score. Forty-seven seconds later, Hagerty broke free for a 35 yard touchdown rush. On the kickoff, Wallace forced a fumble and Rubino recovered it on the Mustangs’ 37 yard line. Hagerty found the end zone after a two yard run by Corcoran.
Gordon’s 70 yard TD reception on third down with 3:15 on the clock made the score, 23-21. Rowan kicker Antonio Regalbuto (so. Clayton, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) nailed a 32 yard field as time expired to give the Profs a 26-21 halftime advantage. Rowan took over on its own 48 yard line. Hagerty threw a 21 yard pass to Wallace and had an 11 yard run to set up the field goal.
At 10:14 in the third stanza, Hagerty scrambled around and hit Corcoran in the end zone with a 17 yard pass. The Profs started on their own 46 yard line. Corcoran had four straight rushes for 28 yards. Hagerty added a five yard run and complete five passes for 36 yards.
