Rowan Defeats Brockport, 35-27

BROCKPORT, NY – Wide receiver Justin Long and running back Keith Corcoran each scored two touchdowns to lead Rowan University to a 35-27 win over The College at Brockport in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Saturday afternoon.

Rowan improves to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Brockport has a 2-5 record with a 2-4 NJAC mark. Long (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Pennsauken) finished the game with six receptions for 113 yards. Corcoran (so. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) rushed for 100 yards on 26 attempts. Quarterback Tim Hagerty (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) completed 12 of 22 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 89 yards on 10 carries. Running back Steve Hevalow (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) added 30 yards and one touchdown on seven runs.

Safety Rocky Aliberti (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) led the Profs with 12 tackles (four solo, eight assisted). He also had one tackle for a loss (-2 yards) and one interception. Defensive end Matt Hoffman (sr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) and linebacker Dean Hammel (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) registered 10 tackles and one sack (-6 yards) apiece. Hoffman made 4.5 tackles for a loss (-10 yards) and Hammel had two (-7 yards). Cornerback Brandon Jones (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) compiled nine tackles (two solo, seven assisted) and two interceptions. Linebacker Jerome Gordon (sr. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) made nine stops (two solo, seven assisted) and recovered a fumble, while defensive tackle Steve Williams (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) had 3.5 tackles for a loss (-8 yards). Defensive end Justin McCulley (sr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) had a fumble recovery.

For the Golden Eagles, quarterback Joseph Scibilia (so. North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns with 24 completions in 42 attempts. He rushed for 47 yards and one TD on 18 carries. Running back Alex Hendrickson (jr. Unadilla, NY/Unatego) added 48 yards on 17 touches. He also had six receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Jake Spalik (fr. Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) hauled in seven balls for 141 yards. Wideout Dan Gage (jr. North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) made six catches for 38 yards and a TD.

Linebacker Nate Bull (sr. Brockport, NY/Brockport) posted a game-high 17 tackles (two solo, 15 assisted). Linebacker Alex Hayes (jr. Fulton, NY/John C. Birdlebough) followed with 10 stops (two solo, eight assisted), while linebacker Darren Vukovic (sr. North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) had nine (two solo, seven assisted). Defensive lineman Mike Kaiser (jr. Attica, NY/Attica) forced a fumble and Vukovic had a fumble recovery. Defensive back Chris Grace (sr. Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) and linebacker Derek DeCandia (jr. Beacon, NY/Beacon) added eight tackles apiece.

Brockport went ahead 3-0 at 5:17 in the first quarter, following a 21 yard field goal by kicker E.J. Genzano (so. Albany, NY/Guilderland). In the drive, Scibilia completed six of eight passes for 39 yards. At 3:38, Hagerty threw a 10 yard touchdown pass to Long to put the Profs up, 7-3. The Profs started on their own 33 yard line. Corcoran ran the ball two times for 13 yards. Hagerty followed with a 34 yard carry and a 15 yard personal foul penalty gave Rowan the ball on the Brockport 10 yard line.

Hagerty and Long connected again for a 12 yard TD at 14:13 in the second period. In the drive, Hagerty threw for 37 yards with five completions in six attempts. Corcoran’s six yard touchdown carry at 9:42 increased the lead to 21-3. Jones intercepted a pass and Rowan started at its own 48 yard line. The Profs drove down the field with six running plays that totaled 39 yards and one pass for seven yards.

Hevalow had a three yard TD rush at 6:06. Gordon recovered a fumble on the Brockport 25 yard line. Hevalow ran the ball twice for 22 yards prior to finding the end zone. Scibilia scored on a 13 yard run at 4:12 to bring the Golden Eagles within 18 (28-10) at the intermission. The big play in the drive was a 23 yard pass from Scibilia to wide receiver Joseph Innes (jr. Unadilla, NY/Unatego).

In the third, Genzano nailed a 27 yard field goal at 11:05. Gage caught a 13 yard touchdown pass at 7:38 that made the score, 28-20. Kaiser forced a fumble and Vukovic recovered it, giving the Golden Eagles the ball at the Rowan 42 yard line. Scibilia connected on three of four passes for 49 yards. At 2:05, Corcoran had a one yard rush to push the advantage to 15 (35-20). The drive was 10 plays and 62 yards.

Hendrickson’s 17 yard TD reception with 6:19 left to play cut the deficit to eight (35-27). Prior to the touchdown, Scibilia threw a 54 yard pass to Spalik. Brockport had the ball on its own 17 yard line with 34 seconds remaining. Hammel sacked Scibilia for a six yard loss and Jones intercepted a pass on the next play to seal the win.

Rowan hosts NJAC opponent Morrisville State College in its Homecoming game on Saturday, October 30 at 1:30 p.m.
