WAYNE, NJ – The William Paterson University women’s soccer team upset Rowan University, 1-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.

It was the first loss of the season for the Profs who have an 8-1-1 record with a 4-1 conference mark. This week, Rowan was ranked 11th in the nation and second in the South Atlantic Region. The Pioneers are 7-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the NJAC.

Forward Michelle Marabondo (so. Kenvil, NJ/Roxbury) scored the winning goal at 10:06. Marabondo had a shot to the right post off a throw in by midfielder Samantha Pena (sr. Odgensburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley Reg.).

William Paterson took eight shots and Rowan registered six. Goalie Alyssa Falduto (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) made four saves for the shutout. Profs’ goalie Deana Wood (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) turned away four shots.

Next week, Rowan hosts Farmingdale State on Thursday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
