BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University. The women took sixth place out of nine teams, while the men finished eighth among eight schools. The classic included Division I, II and III institutions.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay captured third place with a time of 4:14.65. The team consisted of Beverlee Brownlee (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro), Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), Amirah Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) and Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany). The 4x800 meter relay of Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.), Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Rachel Byrne (fr. Shamong, NJ/Holy Cross) and Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) came in sixth (10:13.91).
Rawls was the winner in the 3,000 meters (10:24.06), while Peacock was fifth (10:43.25). Muneer placed fourth in the 60 meter dash (8.36), sixth in the 200 meters (27.52) and eighth in the 400 meters (1:02.78). Nisbett and Rose Johnson (so. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) were fourth (9.66) and fifth (9.87) respectively in the 60 meter hurdles.
In the 800 meters, Byrne had a sixth place finish with a time of 2:28.16. Brownlee came in seventh in the 200 meters (27:63). Johnson tied for eighth in the high jump with 4’ 9.75” (1.47 meters) and she was 12th in the 500 meters (1:29.39). Nisbett took eighth in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 3.25” (4.96 meters). In the one mile, Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was 13th in 5:35.13.
For the men, the 4x400 meter relay took third place (3:33.91). The relay was comprised of Josh McGriff (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Jayce Maxwell (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Brian Makinson (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Benjamin Bradley (jr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills). The 4x800 meter relay of Tom Austin (so. Mantua, NJ/West Deptford), Dan Collier (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Matt Crosta (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) came in seventh (8:55.67).
Kyle Hayes (jr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) finished second in the long jump with 22’ 7.25” (6.89 meters). He also captured seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 41’ 3.25” (12.58 meters). Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) was second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.50). Maxwell placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.30.
Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in fifth in the one mile (4:31.09) and seventh in the 3,000 meters (9:10.15). McGriff tied for seventh in the high jump with 5’ 8” (1.73 meters) and he was ninth in the 400 meters (53.64). Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) took eighth place in the 3,000 meters (9:12.37). Collier was 12th (1:11.97) in the 500 meters, followed by Austin and Julius Grayson (so. Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) 13th (1:12.77) and 14th (1:13.31) respectively. Makinson captured 11th place in the long jump with 19’ 7.75” (5.99 meters).
Rowan travels to the University of Delaware on Saturday, January 30 for the Thomson Invitational at 8:30 a.m.
