Rowan Tops Eastern, 3-1 to Win Stockton Classic

POMONA, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer defeated Eastern University, 3-1 to capture the Stockton Classic title on Saturday. Forward Jess Babice scored all three goals.

The Profs finished the classic with a 2-0 record while the Eagles were 1-1. On Friday, Rowan shut out Stevens, 2-0 while Richard Stockton lost to Eastern, 2-0. In the final game, host Richard Stockton meets Stevens Institute of Technology.

Babice (jr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) put Rowan up 1-0 in the first half. She scored at 24:19 with a pass from midfielder Christie Fink (so. Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert). Her second goal came in the second period at 62:16 and forward Veronica Rhea (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) assisted.

Midfielder Lauren Roe (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) spoiled the shutout with 6:38 remaining. Babice found the net again 32 seconds later with an unassisted goal. The Profs are undefeated with a 2-0 overall record while the Eagles drop to 1-2.

Rowan took 18 shots and Eastern had eight. Profs’ goalie Sarah Volkomer (sr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) stopped three shots. Goalkeeper Alysia Goodman (fr. Ephrata, PA/Ehrata) made four saves for the Eagles.

Next weekend, Rowan plays in the Mayor’s Cup on Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13. On Saturday, the Profs are at Hartwick College (NY) for a 4 p.m. game and they travel to SUNY Oneonta for the second game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
