Stevens Wins 2-1 Over Visiting Rowan

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team won 2-1 over visiting Rowan University on Wednesday.

Stevens’ midfielder Mallory Swanson (so. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) scored twice. For Rowan, forward Kate Hughes (sr. Rosenhayn, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) contributed with a goal and forward Lauren Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) had the assist.

The Ducks are ranked 16th in the nation and they have an overall record of 8-1. The 12th ranked Profs drop to 4-4 on the season. Stevens totaled 14 shots and Rowan took 11. In the Ducks’ cage, Ellyn Griggs (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) made three saves. For the Profs, goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped seven shots.

Swanson scored her first goal at 21:21 after a scramble in front of the goal. She gave the Ducks a 2-0 advantage at 28:43. Apt turned away four straight shots before Swanson scored. At 52:04, Hughes deflected a pass from Ross on a corner and the Profs trailed 2-1.

Rowan travels to Eastern University on Saturday, October 3 for a 1 p.m. nonconference game.
