COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday. The women’s team came in third place out of 17 teams, while the men tied for third among 16 teams.
The men’s 4x200 meter relay took first place in 1:33.67. The team was comprised of Kyle Hayes (so. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro), Jayce Maxwell (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Julius Grayson (fr. Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) and Ja’Ron Morgan (fr. Burlington, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.). The 4x400 relay of Maxwell, Brian Makinson (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Daniel Collier (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Grayson finished third (3:32.20). Collier, Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Matt Crosta (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Mike Rivera (sr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) were on the third place 4x800 relay (8:33.77).
Hayes won the long jump with a distance of 7.01 meters, which was a NCAA provisional (6.96 meters). Kevin Gauntt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) was the winner in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.98. Nehemiah Burney-Porter (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) finished third in the 55 meter hurdles (8.14). Makinson was fifth in the high jump (1.77 meters). Greg Kuczynski (sr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) captured fifth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:26.18.
Jason Yanchuk (jr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) took ninth in the shot put with a distance of 13.15 meters. Grayson came in ninth place in the 400 meters (52.84) and Huddy was ninth in the 800 meters (2:05.45). In the one mile, Rivera finished sixth (4:34.96), while Eric DuBois (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and Jake McCormack (fr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) were ninth (4:40.23) and 10th (4:40.38) respectively.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay won with a time of 4:16.51. The relay was made up of Alli Catenacci (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Amira Muneer (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Tamara Jones (so. Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) and Heidi DeGuzman (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken). Rowan was also a winner in the 4x800 relay (10:07.07), which was a school record breaking the old mark of 10:18.24 (1993). Catenacci, Eileen O’Mara (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.), Lisa Jones (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and Amira Abdullah (fr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) were on the team. The 4x200 meter relay of Tamara Jones, Muneer, DeGuzman and Michelle Forrester took fifth (1:52.12).
DeGuzman captured third place in the 55 meter dash (7.51), while Muneer was fifth (7.66). Catenacci took seventh in the 400 meters (1:04.75). In the high jump, Rose Johnson (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) and Michelle Forrester came in seventh (1.46 meters) and eighth place (1.41 meters) respectively. Johnson was also 10th in the 400 meters (1:05.80). In the 1000 meters, Lisa Jones and O’Mara were third (3:13.60) and fourth (3:13.94) respectively, while Abdullah took sixth (3:27.05). Danielle Czohla (fr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) claimed eighth place in the 1 mile run (5:43.34) and Liz Guarini (so. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) followed 11th (5:52.17).
The Profs travel to Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT for the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships on Saturday, February 14. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
