Rowan Women Take Fourth, Men Finish Fifth at NJAC Championships

NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Monday night. The women finished fourth with 77 points, while the men compiled 58.50 points for fifth place. The meet was held at the New York Armory.

The College of New Jersey was the overall winner for the women and men with 240 and 171.50 points respectively. The Rowan women took second place in the 4x200 meter (1:46.51) and 4x800 meter (10:09.98) relays. The 4x200 team of Heidi DeGuzman (fr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Amirah Muneer (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Amira Abdullah (fr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) and Tamara Jones (so. Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) broke the school record that they had previously set this season (1:48.99). Abdullah, Lisa Jones (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Eileen O’Mara (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) and Lori Oglesby (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Buena Reg.) made up the 4x800.

Rowan was second in the distance medley (12:58.22) with Lisa Jones, Alli Catenacci (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Abdullah and O’Mara. The Profs’ team surpassed the University record of 12:59.90 that was set in 2003. The 4x400 meter relay of Tamara Jones, DeGuzman, Abdullah and Muneer came in fourth (4:13.81).

Danielle Czohla (fr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) captured second place in the 5000 meters (19:18.53), followed by Liz Guarini (so. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) fifth (19:28.88). DeGuzman was second in the 55 meter dash (7.30) and sixth in the 200 meters (26.69). Her time in the 55 meter dash topped the school record of 7.32 held by Marketa Morse (1995). Muneer had a third place in the 400 meters (59.85). Lisa Jones claimed third in the one mile (5:26.70) and Catenacci finished fourth in the 800 meters (2:25.11).

The men’s distance medley took second with a time of 10:39.62. The team consisted of Greg Kuczynski (sr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.), Daniel Collier (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Mike Rivera (sr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan). In the 4x800 meter relay, the team of Huddy, Rivera, Tom Austin (fr. Mantua, NJ/West Deptford) and Eric DuBois (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was fourth in 8:24.67.

The 4x200 meter (1:31.96) and 4x400 meter (3:31.05) relays both came in fourth place. Kyle Hayes (so. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro), Jayce Maxwell (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Julius Grayson (fr. Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) and Ja’Ron Morgan (fr. Burlington, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) comprised the 4x200 relay. Maxwell, Brian Makinson (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Grayson and Collier made up the 4x400.

Jeff Terebey (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) was fourth in the 5000 meters (16:25.10). Kevin Gauntt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) claimed fourth place in the 55 meter hurdles (7.89). Hayes captured fourth in the long jump with 22’ 7” (6.88 meters). In the 200 meters, Maxwell came in fifth with a time of 22.93. Nehemiah Burney-Porter (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) finished sixth in the triple jump with 42’ 5.25” (12.93 meters). Jason Yanchuck (jr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 45’ 9” (13.94 meters).
