Rowan Men Are in Fourth Place at Metropolitan Championships After Two Days of Competition

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rowan University swimming and diving teams finished the second day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships on Saturday. The men are in fourth place with 540 points and the women are eighth with 412. The three-day championships (Feb. 20-22) are being held at Rutgers University.

The men’s 200 medley relay took fifth place in 1:37.21 with Jeremy Soto (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly), Dan Bower (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Kevin Wallace (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Lenape) and Steve Tucker (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart). The 800 freestyle relay had a sixth place finish with a time of 7:11.69. The free relay consisted of Josh Spivey (fr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City), Mike Brooks (so. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Bill Malone (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).

Wallace had an eighth place (51.79) in the 100 butterfly and Brian McDermott (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) was 14th (53.72). Jeff Terrell (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) came in 13th in the 400 individual medley (4:21.59). In the 100 backstroke, Soto took ninth place (54.94) while Matt Marzolf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Kyle Mongelluzzo (jr. Newfield, NJ/Delsea Reg.) were 13th (56.31) and 15th (57.69) respectively. Spivey finished 14th in the 200 freestyle (1:46.21). Bower was ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.03) followed by Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) 10th (1:00.17).

The women’s 200 medley relay took eighth place with a time of 1:55.32. The medley relay included Steph McAllister (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Stacey Rahter (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (so. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth), Janina Wojcik (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.). The 800 freestyle relay came in eighth (8:23.87) with Rahter, Kate Winters (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Julie Furdyna (so. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and Samantha Edwards (so. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown).

Winters finished 10th in the 400 individual medley (4:47.48) and Edwards was 13th (4:52.89). Wojcik and O’Gorman were 12th (1:01.43) and 15th (1:02.72) respectively in the 100 butterfly. Rahter took 11th place in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.63) and Ashley Gagnon (jr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) was 15th (1:11.24).
