Friday results

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rowan University swimming and diving teams competed at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday. After the first day, the men are in fourth place with 272 points and the women are eighth with 191 points. The three-day championships (Feb. 20-22) are being held at Rutgers University.

Samantha Rottkamp (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) won the three meter diving with 429.60 points. In the men’s one meter diving, Bryan Carlisle (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) took second place (498.35). Mark Balesteri (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Dave Bauer (sr. Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) were fourth (430.50) and sixth (399.95) respectively followed by Nate McCarson (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) eighth (389.95).

The men’s 200 freestyle relay finished third with a time of 1:26.35. The relay consisted of Josh Spivey (fr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City), Steve Tucker (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart), Bill Malone (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Matt Bocian (jr. Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston). The 400 medley relay was sixth in 3:35.22 with Matt Marzolf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Jake Taylor (so. Millville, NJ/Millville), Kevin Wallace (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Lenape) and Malone.

Wallace came in 11th in the 500 freestyle (4:44.00). Malone took 13th place in the 50 freestyle (21.98). In the 200 individual medley, Brian McDermott (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) was 15th (2:02.73) followed by Jeremy Soto (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) 16th (2:05.81).

The women’s 200 freestyle relay (1:43.47) took eighth place with Kate Winters (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Samantha King (jr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Lauren Hauser (jr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) and Janina Wojcik (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.). The 400 medley relay came in seventh (4:10.57). The relay members were Winters, Stacey Rahter (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (so. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Wojcik.

Samantha Edwards (so. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) had an eight place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:23.88). Rahter took 11th in the 200 individual medley (2:15.86). Wojcik was 15th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.34.
