BALTIMORE, MD – The Rowan University women’s basketball team ended the regular season with a 78-62 victory over the College of Notre Dame in a nonconference game on Tuesday evening.
The Profs had four players that scored in double figures. Forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) led the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Danielle Rohe (jr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) contributed with 14 points while guard Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) added 10 points apiece. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (sr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) grabbed 10 boards along with six points and six assists.
Rowan has an overall record of 14-9 while Notre Dame drops to 7-16 on the season. For the Gators, forward Kendra Baldwin compiled 17 points and eight rebounds. Guard Kierra Scott scored 13 points and guard Khadija Mitchell followed with 12. Mitchell also dished five assists.
The score was tied three times in the first half before Rowan took the lead for good. The last one was at 18 when Nimbley hit a jumper at 9:56. The Profs had 11 straight points to lead 29-18 with 7:12 remaining. Guard Brynn DeGroff (sr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) nailed two three-pointers in the run. Nimbley’s basket gave the Profs a 12 point advantage (36-24) at 3:43. Scott made a layup (1:53) and Baldwin sank two foul shots (1:02) to pull within eight points (36-28). Rowan was ahead 38-30 at the intermission.
In the final period, the Gators trailed by six points (40-34) at 18:38. The Profs followed with baskets by Catanzariti (18:08), Cieplicki (17:33) and Rohe (16:27) to lead 46-34. Jennings’ two free throws at 13:25 made the score 55-38. Rowan was up by 21 points (68-47) after Nimbley’s two foul shots at 7:42. The Profs led 74-53 with 4:13 remaining. Notre Dame then had seven points to pull within 14 points (74-60) at 1:14.
Rowan’s next game will be on Saturday, February 21 in the first round of the NJAC Championship Tournament. The Profs will have to wait until the end of conference play on Wednesday, February 18 to determine if they will travel to William Paterson University or Montclair State University.
