EWING, NJ – Guard Jay Frank scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead The College of New Jersey over Rowan University, 62-47 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

Frank (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) was eight of 17 from the floor with two three-pointers and a perfect five for five from the line. Forward Aaron Syvertsen (jr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) contributed with 11 points. Forward Steven Siracusa (so. New Providence, NJ/New Providence) and guard Jeff Molinelli (sr. Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) added nine and eight points respectively.

TCNJ is 9-14 overall and 5-7 in the conference. Rowan has a record of 11-13 with a 4-8 NJAC mark. For the Profs, forward Tim Cook (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro) scored 11 points and grabbed 10 boards. Guards Dan Reddan (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and Sean Hughes (so. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) and forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had seven points apiece. Guard Aaron Spellman (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/St. Joseph's (Hammonton)) totaled seven assists.

The Lions went up by 10 points (15-5) in the first 7:53 of the game. Syvertsen scored eight points, Frank had four and Molinelli nailed a three-pointer. Rowan trailed by six points (15-9) after forward Steve Secula’s (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) layup at 11:08. Frank made a basket and foul shot for a 12 point advantage (23-11) with 8:06 remaining. The Profs pulled within six points (23-17) at 5:26 after a layup by Reddan. With 52 seconds on the clock, Frank hit a three that made the score 31-19 at the break. He ended the half with 12 points and Syvertsen followed with 11.

In the second period, Cook made a layup at 15:52 and Rowan trailed by four (31-27). Frank (13:39) and Molinelli (12:36) both hit threes to lead 37-27. Spellman nailed a three-pointer at 11:05 to cut the deficit to six (39-33). Frank’s two free throws (4:10) and layup (3:26) made the score 53-38. He had two foul shots for a 15 point advantage (57-42) with 1:44 left.

Rowan has a rescheduled game on Monday, February 16 against Rutgers-Camden at 8 p.m. The contest will be played at Gloucester County College.
