GLASSBORO, NJ – Four players scored in double figures to lead Richard Stockton College to a 65-55 victory over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
The Ospreys improve to 22-2 overall and 11-1 in the conference. The Profs have an 11-12 record with a 4-7 NJAC mark. Guard Kai Massaquoi (so. Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Heights) scored a game-high 17 points. He also had eight rebounds and five assists. Guard Santini Lancioni (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Paul VI) followed with 15 points and six assists. Forwards Omar Smith (jr. Newark, NJ/Central) and Jerome Hubbard (sr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively. Hubbard grabbed nine boards, while Smith had six.
For Rowan, forward Tim Cook (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro) recorded 11 points and five rebounds. Forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) each scored 10 points, while guard Gary Foster (fr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) had nine.
The game was tied (4-4) at 17:22 in the first period. Rowan went on a 10-3 run to go ahead, 14-7 at 11:27. Cook scored four of the 10 points. Richard Stockton battled back with a 19-4 surge over the next 6:46 to take a 26-18 lead. Lancioni posted nine points, while Hubbard had five. Cook’s layup at 3:43 cut the deficit to three (26-23). The Ospreys had eight straight points for an 11 point advantage (34-23) with 1:34 left. Cook had a layup with one second remaining to make the score 36-27 at the intermission. Massaquoi had 10 points in the first half. Cook compiled 11 points for the Profs.
In the second, Hartnett had a layup at 15:21 that brought Rowan within four points (38-34). The Ospreys scored seven consecutive points to go up by 11 (45-34) at 13:22. Richard Stockton’s largest lead of the game was 23 points at 6:28 (63-40) and 5:10 (65-42). Rowan had a 13-0 run to end the game, but Richard Stockton held on for the win. Smith scored eight of his 11 points in the final period.
Rowan plays at conference opponent The College of New Jersey on Saturday, February 14 at 3 p.m. Richard Stockton will face Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, February 18 at 8 p.m. The game will be played at Gloucester County College in Sewell, NJ.
