GLASSBORO, NJ – The Richard Stockton College women’s basketball team won 72-62 over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
Guard Aliyah Nelson (fr. Pleasantville, NJ/St. Joseph’s) paced the Ospreys with 14 points. Forward Kelley Guarrera (sr. Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) totaled 12 points and eight rebounds. Center LaTonya Oliver (fr. West Berlin, NJ/Overbrook) added nine points while forwards Kristin Sciarrillo (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Julia Fagan (so. New Britain, CT/New Britain) each had eight.
Richard Stockton has an overall record of 7-16 and a 3-9 NJAC mark. Rowan is 12-8 on the season with a 6-5 conference record.
For the Profs, forward Ashley Cieplicki (sr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) recorded game-highs of 17 points and 11 boards. Forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored 14 points and guard Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) followed with 13. Catanzariti dished a career-high 11 assists. Forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) was in double figures with 11 points.
Richard Stockton started the final period with a 17 point advantage (44-27). Rowan pulled within eight points (44-36) at 15:45 on Nimbley’s jumper. At 10:23, the Ospreys were ahead 52-44. Jennings hit three straight baskets to cut the deficit to two (52-50) with 8:54 remaining. Stockton answered with seven straight points to go back up by nine (59-50) at 5:07. The closest Rowan came was four points (61-57) with 2:56 left. In the last 1:04, the Ospreys were nine of 12 from the free throw line.
In the first half, Rowan was ahead 8-7 after Nimbley made a layup at 15:35. Stockton had a 9-1 run that ended at 13:08 to take the lead 16-9. Oliver started the surge with two baskets followed by Nelson with a three and forward Jenny Fitzgerald (fr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Catholic) with a layup. Jennings pulled the Profs within four points (20-16) with a jumper at 9:31.
The Ospreys went up by 12 points (28-16) after scoring eight unanswered points in 3:27. Fagan contributed with two baskets while Fitzgerald and forward Alyssa Reiter (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each added one. With 3:25 left, Rowan trailed by 11 points (32-21) after Cieplicki’s layup. Richard Stockton closed the half with a 12-6 run to lead by 17 points (44-27) at the intermission. Guarrera scored eight of the 12 points.
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Saturday, February 14 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
