ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Rowan University field hockey team won 2-1 at Eastern University on Saturday.

Forward Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and midfielder Julie Cairone (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each scored a goal. Back Lauren Conner (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) contributed with an assist. For Eastern, forward Yvonne Herbster (so. Middleburg, PA/Midd-West) had the lone goal.

The Profs, ranked 12th in the nation, improve to 5-4 on the season and the Eagles are 7-4 overall. Rowan out shot Eastern, 24-13. In the Profs’ cage, Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped 11 shots. Goalie Laura Ressler (jr. Media, PA/Delaware County Christian) made 15 saves for the Eagles.

Valianti put Rowan on the scoreboard first at 6:03 with an unassisted goal. It was her seventh on the season. Hebster tied the score (15:15) with a shot from the top of the circle. In the second half, Cairone recorded the game winner with a pass from Conner at 47:18.

Next week, Rowan travels to Wesley College on Thursday, October 8 for a 7 p.m. nonconference game.
