GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team had five players score in double figures in a 105-65 nonconference win over Penn State Brandywine on Monday night.
Rowan improves to 7-4 overall, while Penn State Brandywine is 4-4. The Profs were led by forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) with 25 points, eight rebounds and four steals. She connected on 12 of 13 shots from the floor. Guard Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) followed with 16 points and four steals. Forward Kelly Lallave (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (sr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) totaled 14 points and seven boards, while guard Danielle Rohe (jr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) had 13 points. Guard Alissa Lamey (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished a career-high 11 assists.
For the Lions, forward Deanna Gineitis posted a team-high 21 points, including four three-pointers. Guard Tiesha Dunlap added 12 points off the bench. Guard Shari Harper compiled 11 points, six rebounds and six steals. Guard Katie Martin scored eight points.
The game was tied (8-8) at 17:05 in the first period. Rowan had the next 10 points to go ahead, 18-8 at 13:45. Cieplicki and Jennings each scored four points, while Catanzariti had two. Catanzariti’s layup at 11:33 extended the Profs’ lead to 16 points (26-10). Martin nailed a three-pointer with 11 minutes left to bring the Lions within 12 (28-16). It was the closest Penn State Brandywine would come for the remainder of the game. Lallave had a layup at 2:30 to stretch Rowan’s advantage to 25 points (49:24). Dunlap made a layup with 14 seconds left to make the score, 57-34 at the intermission. Cieplicki and Jennings each had 10 first half points. Gineitis led the Lions with 19 points.
Jennings’ layup at 13:44 in the second increased the lead to 32 points (77-45). At 5:13, Rowan guard Brynn DeGroff (sr. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) sunk a jump shot to put the Profs up by 37 (94-57). Guard Lauren Creel’s (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) layup with eight seconds remaining gave Rowan its biggest lead of the game, 105-65.
