GLASSBORO, NJ – Guard Nancy White made two free throws for Rowan University to win the game, 66-65 over conference opponent Rutgers-Newark on Saturday.

White (fr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was fouled with four seconds left. Her first foul shot tied the score at 65 and the second sealed the win. The Profs were down by 15 points (65-50) with 3:15 remaining. Guard Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) started the come back with two straight three-pointers that made the score 65-56 at 2:22. Forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) followed with baskets at 1:47 and at :58 to cut the deficit to five (65-60). The Profs then had two free throws from guard Alissa Lamey (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) at :21 and forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) at :19.

Catanzariti finished the game with 18 points. Nimbley and Jennings totaled 14 points apiece. Jennings also grabbed eight rebounds while Nimbley dished four assists. White and Lamey each contributed with six points.

Rowan is 10-7 overall and 4-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Rutgers-Newark has an 8-10 record with a 2-5 NJAC mark. The Scarlet Raiders were led by guard Younger Kehleay (sr. Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Reg.) with a game-high 26 points. Guard Jared Tactuk (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) scored 15 points. Forward Courtney Vacca (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) pulled down a game-high 10 boards.

Rutgers-Newark started the second half with a 22 point lead (46-24). Rowan had eight unanswered points, five from Catanzariti, and trailed 46-32 at 14:23. The Profs were down 56-44 at 8:47 after Catanzariti’s three-pointer. Kehleay hit a three at 7:47 and guard Bimpe Fageyinbo (sr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) had a free throw at 7:28. Kehleay nailed another three-pointer to lead by 19 (63-44) with 6:23 left. Nimbley’s jumper (4:15) made the score 63-50. The Scarlet Raiders’ last basket was by Fageyinbo at 3:15. Catanzariti totaled 16 points in the last period and Kehleay had 12.

In the first half, the Profs were down 6-4 after Catanzariti’s jumper at 17:10. Rutgers-Newark pulled away with a 22-2 run to lead by 22 points (28-6) at 9:20. Tactuk and Kehleay each scored eight points in the surge. Guard Tamara Trotz (so. East Orange, NJ/East Orange) put the Scarlet Raiders up by 24 (40-16) with a layup at 5:12. Rutgers-Newark had a 22 point advantage (46-24) at the intermission. Tactuk and Kehleay compiled 15 and 14 points respectively.

Next week, Rowan travels to Washington, DC on Wednesday, January 28 for a nonconference game against Trinity College at 7 p.m.
