Rowan Defeats Richard Stockton, 57-45 in NJAC road game

POMONA, NJ – Four players scored in double figures to lead the Rowan University women’s basketball team over Richard Stockton College, 57-45 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

Forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) came off the bench for the Profs and scored a game-high 18 points. She also grabbed nine rebounds. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (sr. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) and guard Gina Catanzariti (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each contributed with 11 points. Guard Danielle Rohe (jr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) added 10 points and five steals.

Rowan improves to 9-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference. Richard Stockton drops to 3-13 on the season with a 0-6 NJAC mark. For the Ospreys, center LaTonya Oliver (fr. West Berlin, NJ/Overbrook) totaled 15 points and a game-high 12 boards.

The score was tied at seven with 14:17 left in the first half. Rowan went up 14-7 with seven straight points. Catanzariti nailed a three (13:46) then Cieplicki made two foul shots (13:12) and a layup (12:43). The Profs were ahead 23-10 at 7:29 after Rohe’s three-pointer. Guard Monique Garcia (fr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) had a jumper and the Ospreys trailed by eight (23-15) with 2:55 remaining. Rowan closed the period with a 6-2 run to lead 29-17 at the intermission. Cieplicki ended the half with nine points and five rebounds.

In the final stanza, Oliver had a layup at 15:39 to cut the deficit to four points (31-27). Rowan followed with five unanswered points to lead 36-27 at the 14 minute mark. Guard Nancy White (fr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) made three of the five points while Jennings had two. Rowan was ahead 36-29 at 13:27. The Profs then had a 13-2 surge that ended at 8:59 for an 18 point advantage (49-31). It was their biggest lead of the game. Rohe and Jennings had five and four points respectively while Catanzariti and Cieplicki had two apiece. Jennings compiled 12 points in the second half.

Rowan hosts Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, January 24 in a conference game at 1 p.m.
