MAHWAH, NJ – Guard Allen Pritchett scored the game-winning basket with one second left in overtime to give Rowan University a 72-70 victory over Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
The game was tied at 65-65 after regulation. In overtime, Rowan held a one point advantage (70-69) following a free throw by guard Billy Care (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) with 57 seconds remaining. Ramapo guard Garret Thiel (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) connected on one of two free throws with 49 seconds on the clock to tie the game. Rowan took possession with four seconds left. Pritchett (jr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) drove the lane and threw up a layup for the game-winner with one second remaining.
Rowan has a 9-9 record and a 2-4 NJAC mark. Ramapo is 9-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Profs were led by guard Dan Reddan (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) with career-highs of 20 points, 10 steals and six assists. He also matched his season best with seven rebounds. Forward Tyson Hartnett (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) compiled 16 points and nine rebounds. Care posted 13 points and five boards, while forward Tim Cook (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro).
For the Roadrunners, guard Hassan Anderson (so. Edgewater, NJ/Leonia) recorded 19 points and seven rebounds. Forward Kevin Findlay (sr. Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic) had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Andre Kenny (jr. Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) and guard Tim Wesley (sr. Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) grabbed eight boards apiece.
In the first period, Rowan was up 16-14 at 12:50. Ramapo scored the next eight points to lead by six (22-16) at 8:25. Kenny had four of the eight points. The Roadrunners had a five point advantage (25-20) at 5:43. Reddan hit a three-pointer (4:22) and Care made a layup (3:59) to tie the game at 25. Ramapo went back up by five (32-27) when guard Larry Burroughs (fr. Paterson, NJ/Passaic Tech) nailed a jumper at 1:29. Reddan’s three-pointer with three seconds left made the score 32-30 at the intermission.
In the second half, the score was tied nine times, with the last one (63-63) coming at 2:02 on a jumper by Findlay. Hartnett connected on a jump shot with 48 seconds on the clock that put the Profs ahead by two points (65-63). Findlay answered with a jumper at the 23 second mark to send the game into overtime.
Rowan travels to Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, January 21 for an 8 p.m. conference game.
