Rowan Loses Mayor's Cup Consolation to SUNY Oneonta, 3-1

ONEONTA, NY – The Rowan University men’s soccer team lost 3-1 to host SUNY Oneonta in the consolation game of the Mayor’s Cup Tournament on Saturday.

The Profs are 2-2 on the season while the Red Dragons have a 3-1 record. In the first round on Friday, Allegheny College (PA) defeated Rowan, 2-1 in two overtimes. Susquehanna University had a 1-0 shutout over SUNY Oneonta. Allegheny and Susquehanna advanced to the championship.

All of the scoring for both teams came in the second half. Forward Dan Arnold (jr. Sicklerville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) had Rowan’s lone goal at 47:04. Arnold hit the net from 35 yards away. Back Yan Garcia recorded the tying goal about nine minutes later and it was unassisted.

Midfielder Evan Jedynak put the Red Dragons up 2-1 at 75:38 with an assist from midfielder Jonathan Kowlaski. Forward Gary Laronde recorded the third goal on a penalty kick at 76:49.

Oneonta totaled 16 shots while Rowan had six. Profs’ goalkeeper Joel Sanger (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) stopped seven shots. For the Red Dragons, goalie Maxwell Siegelman had one save.

Rowan travels next to St. Joseph’s College (LI) on Thursday, September 11 for a 7 p.m. game.
