No. 23 Rowan Ties No. 14 TCNJ, 1-1 in Double Overtime

EWING, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team played to a two overtime 1-1 tie with The College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Wednesday night.

Rowan, ranked 23rd in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA)/adidas Division III Poll, is 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference. The College of New Jersey, ranked 14th, has a 5-1-1 overall record and a 1-0-1 NJAC mark.

Forward Mandy Silvesti (jr. Turnerville, NJ/Washington Twp.) found the net on a feed from forward Jess Babice (so. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) to give Rowan a 1-0 lead at 34:12. TCNJ tied the game in the second half at 73:24. Forward Jamie Kunkel (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored on a pass from midfielder Kristina Shemming (jr. Cranbury, NJ/West Windsor S.). Both teams were held scoreless through two overtime periods.

The Profs and Lions took 16 shots apiece. Goalkeeper Sarah Volkomer (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made six saves for Rowan. Goalkeeper Jessica Clarke (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) stopped six shots in TCNJ’s net.

Rowan travels to William Paterson University for a conference game on Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m. TCNJ hosts NJAC opponent Montclair State University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
