MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team defeated visiting Rowan University, 3-0 in the first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match of the season. MSU won with the set scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-19.

The Red Hawks, the defending conference champions, are 6-3 on the season while the Profs have a 4-5 record. MSU was led by middle blocker Kara Burnham (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) with 15 kills in 20 attempts. Outside hitter Devon Johnston (so. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) contributed with 11 kills, four service aces and seven digs. Setter Raisa Silva (jr. Newark,NJ/ East Side) collected 38 assists

For Rowan, outside hitter Alexis Louie (sr. Sewell, NJ / Washington Twp.) had eight kills and six digs. Outside hitter Karen Ramirez (jr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) added six kills and six digs. Libero Casey Roselle (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) totaled 15 digs and setter Chrissy McKay (jr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) compiled 22 assists.

Rowan travels to York College (PA) for the Spartan Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20.
