Rowan shuts out Neumann, 8-0 in home opener

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team shut out Neumann College, 8-0 in the home opener on Tuesday night.

Forwards Amanda Greene (sr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) and Lauren Ross (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) led the Profs with three goals and one assist apiece. Forward Kiley Graham (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Shawnee) and midfielder Julie Cairone (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each contributed with one goal and one assist.

Rowan, ranked ninth in the nation, has a 3-1 record while Neumann drops to 0-6 on the season. Goalie Lisa Apt (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) played the first half in the Profs’ net while Brittney Galloway (fr. Woodbury Highest, NJ/Gateway Reg.) made one save in the second. For the Knights, goalie Jordan Haviland (fr. Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest) stopped 13 shots.

Graham put Rowan on the scoreboard at 3:10 with a pass from Ross. The second goal came less than two minutes later when Ross hit the net and Greene had the assist. Greene had an unassisted goal at 5:57. Ross picked up her second goal at 7:17 assisted by Graham. Cairone (14:21) and Greene (34:31) ended the scoring in the first half.

Greene scored her third goal of the night at 56:40 with an assist from Cairone. Ross had the Profs’ eighth goal unassisted with 3:24 left in the game. Rowan ended the game with 23 shots while Neumann had one.

Rowan starts its conference schedule at home on Saturday, September 20 against William Paterson University at 7 p.m.
