COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Ursinus College field hockey team defeated visiting Rowan University, 4-2 on Wednesday night.
Ursinus had two goals apiece from midfielder Jennie Moore (sr. Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and forward Jen Hooven (jr. Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic). The seventh ranked Bears improve to 2-1 on the season while the Profs, ranked ninth, have a 1-1 record.
For Rowan, forwards Nicole Valianti (so. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and Lauren Ross (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) each scored once. Ursinus recorded 25 shots while Rowan took six. In the Profs’ net, goalie Lisa Apt (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped eight shots. The Bears’ goalie Erica Scott (jr. Carneys Point, NJ/St. Elizabeth) had one save.
Rowan was down 2-1 after the first half. Valianti tied the score on a breakaway at 46:18. The Bears went back up 29 seconds later with an unassisted goal by Hooven. Moore added an insurance goal at 51:10 with an assist from forward Kait Sutherland (sr. Perkiomenville, PA/Perkiomen Valley).
Moore had the first goal of the game at 2:43 after a penalty corner. Hooven made it 2-0 at 13:14 when she knocked in the ball in front of the Profs’ cage. Ross scored the Profs’ first goal at 16:13 with a pass from forward Amanda Greene (sr. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester).
Rowan travels to Messiah College (PA) on Saturday, September 13 for a 7 p.m. contest.
