BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team has a 2-2 record after opening the season at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational. On Saturday, Rowan lost to Ithaca College, 3-0 and came back with a 3-0 shutout over SUNY Institute of Technology.
The two-day invitational was held at Moravian College. On Friday, Rowan defeated Centenary College, 3-1 in the first match. Muhlenberg College won 3-1 against Rowan in the second. The Profs moved on to the gold bracket on Saturday that was won by Ithaca.
Against Ithaca, Rowan was led by outside hitter Alexis Louie (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) with 10 kills and 14 digs. Louie also contributed with three service aces and one block. Libero Casey Roselle (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) totaled 14 digs. Outside hitter Karen Ramirez (jr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) added six kills and 14 digs. The Bombers swept the match with set scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-10.
Rowan won 25-22, 25-13 and 25-14 against SUNY Institute of Technology. Ramirez paced the Profs with eight kills, nine digs, four aces and two solo blocks. Outside hitter Rachel Emig (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) totaled eight digs while defensive specialist Sara Betancourt (fr. Harrington, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) had six digs and one service ace.
Rowan hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College in its home opener on Thursday, September 4 at 7 p.m.
