Women's Volleyball Starts Season at Greyhound Premiere Invitational

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team started the 2008 season at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational on Friday. Rowan won its first match over Centenary College, 3-1 and lost the second to Muhlenberg College, 3-1.

Moravian College is the host for the invitational that continues on Saturday. Rowan advances to the gold bracket and plays Ithaca College at noon and SUNY Institute of Technology at 2 p.m.

Rowan defeated Centenary (0-2) with set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-10. Outside hitter Alexis Louie (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) led the Profs with 12 kills, 19 digs and one service ace. Middle blocker Theresa Pecoraro (sr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) contributed with 10 kills, four blocks and three aces. Libero Casey Roselle (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) totaled 22 digs.

Muhlenberg (2-0) won 25-23, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-16. For Rowan, outside hitter Karen Ramirez (jr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) compiled 11 kills and 13 digs. Middle blocker Chelsea Bowman (jr. Penns Grove, NJ/Salem County Christian Academy) contributed with nine kills and four blocks. Setter Chrissy McKay (jr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) recorded 24 assists. McKay also added 10 digs and two blocks.

Muhlenberg advances to the championship bracket on Saturday while Centenary will compete in the silver bracket.
