Profs Blank Misericordia, 7-0 in Season Opener

POMONA, NJ – Forward Jess Babice scored three goals to lead Rowan University to a 7-0 win over Misericordia University in the first day of the Stockton Classic.

Back Linda Sierra (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) added one goal and one assist. Forwards Michelle Carrocino (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Dana Ross (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) and midfielder Colleen Uff (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.) each scored once. Back Megan Bry (jr. Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Reg.) and midfielder Krista Verzi (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) recorded one assist apiece.

Rowan out shot Misericordia, 18-3. Goalkeeper Sarah Volkomer (jr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made two saves in the Profs’ net. For Misericordia, goalkeeper Morgan Myers (so. Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) stopped one shot in the first half, while Jemila Najjar-Keith (sr. Wharton, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) made five saves in the second stanza.

Babice (so. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) got the Profs on the scoreboard with a goal at 13:06 in the first period. She found the net again at 14:22 off of an assist by Verzi. Carrocino added an unassisted goal at 29:46 to put Rowan up 3-0. Sierra knocked in a feed from Bry at 34:36 and Ross scored on a penalty kick at 37:43 to give the Profs at 5-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Babice had an unassisted goal at 48:53 for a 6-0 advantage. Uff put back a pass from Sierra off of a corner kick at 74:58 to close out the scoring.

On the second day of the Stockton Classic on Saturday, August 30, Rowan (1-0) plays Immaculata University at 3 p.m. Misericordia (0-1) faces host Richard Stockton College at 5 p.m.
