Rowan Men Finish Fourth at NJAC Track & Field Championships

POMONA, NJ – The Rowan University men’s track and field team took fourth place at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Saturday. The Rowan women finished in seventh place. The conference championships were held at Richard Stockton College.

The Prof men had three individual conference champions. Sean Corey (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) won the javelin with a throw of 204’ 0.5” (62.19 meters). His throw was a NCAA provisional (188’, 57.30 meters). This season, Corey’s top performance was 215’ 4” (65.65 meters) at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships (Apr. 19). It is an NCAA automatic (205’ 1”, 62.50 meters) and the best throw in Division III.

Kyle Hayes (fr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) had a first place in the long jump and Nehemiah Burney-Porter (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was the winner in the triple jump. Hayes had a leap of 22’ 2.5” (6.77 meters) and Burney-Porter had a distance of 45’ 3” (13.79 meters).

Tim Cook (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) came in second in the high jump with 6’ 4.75” (1.95 meters). Stephen Hague (fr. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) finished second in the discus with a toss of 141’ (42.98 meters). Nick Tyson (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) took third in the pole vault with a height of 13’ 7.25” (4.15 meters).

Greg Kuczynski (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) was fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15.53.47. Kevin Gauntt (so. Delanco, NJ/Seneca) took fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (15.06). Gauntt recorded a NCAA provisional time of 14.86 in the preliminaries. The NCAA provisional for the 110 meter hurdles is 14.95.

In the 10,000, Dan Ratty (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) was fifth (34:03.62) while Eric Thomas (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and Brian Quilty (fr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) came in seventh (34:41.84) and eighth (35:07.54) respectively.

Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) took eighth in the 1,500 meters (4:08.48) while Dan Collier (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was eighth in the 800 meters (2:01.19). Andrew Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) finished fifth (10:25.90) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase followed by John Fessler (fr. Rancocas, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) sixth (11:18.72).

The men’s 4x100 meter relay was fourth (44.62) with the team of Ben Bradley (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills), Gauntt, Burney-Porter and Hayes. The 4x400 meter relay came in sixth with a time of 3:30.93. The relay included Brian Makinson (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Steven Rosado (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Mason Campbell (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Collier.

On the women’s side, Dannielle Warren (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) took second in the long jump with 17’ 7.75” (5.38 meters). Warren also came in sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.71. Michelle Lala (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) tied for third in the high jump with a height of 5’ 1.75” (1.57 meters).

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Laura O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) had a third place in 13:17.57 and Heather Carbone (fr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished sixth (13:51.0). Angela Patane (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) came in fourth in the 5,000 meters (19:37.86). Allison Catenacci (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was fifth in the 800 meters (2:25.81).

Katelyn Sammon (sr. Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) finished seventh in the 1,500 meters (5:19.48). In the 5,000, Liz Guarini (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) came in 11th (22:00.19) and Dana Baffuto (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was 13th (23:54.58).
