NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s track and field team had five individuals that competed at the New Balance New York City Qualifying Challenge on Saturday. The meet was held at Icahn Stadium in Randall’s Island Park.
Sean Corey (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) took second place in the javelin throw with a toss of 205’ 1” (62.52 meters). It was the fourth time this season Corey recorded a NCAA automatic (205’, 62.50 meters). He was the top collegiate athlete in the event at the meet. He still has the best throw in Division III of 215’ 4” (65.65 meters). Sean Biehn (so. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) had a fifth place in the javelin with 189’ 9” (57.84 meters).
Kyle Hayes (fr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) finished fourth in the long jump with 24’ 0.75” (7.33 meters) which was a NCAA automatic (23’ 11.5”, 7.30 meters). Hayes has the second best qualifier in Division III. He recorded a provisional of 23’ 4” (7.11 meters) at the Wake Forest Invitational (Mar. 22). The first through third places in the long jump were by athletes that were unattached.
Nehemiah Burney-Porter (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 43’ 3” (13.18 meters). Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) came in 11th in the 5,000 meters (15:22.25).
