ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The Elizabethtown College baseball team defeated visiting Rowan University, 6-4 in a nonconference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Jays are 13-8 overall while the Profs have an 18-8 record. Right hander Ryan Barrett was the winning pitcher. Barrett (1-1) pitched 4.1 innings of relief and gave up three hits and two earned runs. Righty Chris Zagyi (fr. Summit, NJ/Oratory Prep) suffered the loss. Zagy (0-1) went the first four innings and allowed five hits, three runs and one was earned.
Elizabethtown was led by right fielder Brandon Watson with two hits (four at bats), a triple, two RBIs and one run scored. Second baseman Adam Sheibley went two for five with one RBI and one run scored. First baseman Jared Auman had two hits in four trips to the plate, a double, one RBI and one run scored.
For Rowan, right fielder John McMullin (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went two for four with one RBI. Left fielder Tom Reindel (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) added two hits in three at bats. Shortstop Roland Rodriguez (so. Miami, FL/Miami Killian) scored two runs. First baseman Tom Ready (jr. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) and center fielder Garrett Mull (jr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape) each had one RBI.
The Profs got on the scoreboard with one run in the first inning. Ready drove in Rodriguez with a single. The Blue Jays went up 3-1 in the bottom of the third. Sheibley singled in a run and later scored on an error. Auman recorded a RBI double. After the seventh, Elizabethtown lead 6-1. Watson’s triple scored two runs and he came home on an error.
Rowan had two runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth. In the eighth, Rodriguez crossed the plate on a wild pitch and McMullin singled in a run. Mull’s sacrifice fly scored pinch runner Keith Evans (so. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) in the ninth.
Rowan returns to its conference schedule at home against Ramapo College on Thursday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m.
