GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University defeated Wesley College, 11-3 in a nonconference game on Tuesday night.

Rowan improves to 18-7, while Wesley has a 23-11 record. Right hander Miguel Sosa (sr. Miami, FL/Barbara Goleman) got the win on the mound for the Profs. Sosa (2-0) pitched six innings, allowing one run and striking out five batters. Right hander Ricky Rodgers (fr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) took the loss for the Wolverines.

Rowan right fielder John McMullin (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) totaled three hits (five at bats), a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. First baseman Tom Ready (jr. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) went one for three with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Designated hitter Matt Johanson (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) added two hits (five at bats), a double, one RBI and one run scored. Second baseman Joe Franceschini (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) was one for one at the plate and scored three times.

For Wesley, left fielder Anthony Cisternino (so. Oak Ridge, NJ/W. Milford) recorded two hits (three at bats), one RBI and one run scored. Second baseman Kevin Ellis (sr. Newark, DE/Christiana) compiled two hits in five at bats, a double, one RBI and one run scored. Shortstop Kevin Murphy (fr. Middletown, MD/Middletown) posted one RBI, while designated hitter Tyler Burns (so. Dover, DE/Dover) scored once.

Wesley went up 1-0 in the top of the second inning. Cisternino singled down the left field line, scoring Burns from second base. Rowan got two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead. Left fielder Tom Reindel (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Urbanovich. Johanson came home on a ground out by center fielder Garrett Mull (jr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape). In the third inning, McMullin singled in Franceschini and McMullin crossed home plate on a ground out by Urbanovich to give Rowan a 4-1 advantage.

The Profs added three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. In the fifth, McMullin doubled in Ready and Franceschini. Johanson’s double down the left field line scored McMullin. Ready hit a two run homer in the sixth. It was his second home run of the season. Wesley had two runs in the top of the seventh. Ellis’ double plated Cisternino and Murphy’s sacrifice fly brought Ellis home. In the bottom of the eighth, center fielder Roger Turley (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) scored on an error and McMullin drove in second baseman Tim Barnshaw (jr. Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) with a single.

Rowan is on the road at Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
