Penn Relays Championship Javelin Results
EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men’s track and field team competed at the Lions’ Invitational on Saturday while Sean Corey was in the championship javelin throw at the Penn Relays. The invitational was held at The College of New Jersey.
At the Penn Relays, Corey (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) finished eighth in the championship javelin. He had a distance of 208’ 1” (63.43 meters) which was a NCAA automatic. Three times during the event, he had throws that were better than the automatic standard of 205’ 1” (62.50). Corey was the only non-Division I athlete of 11 that advanced to the final. The javelin was won by Louisiana State’s Chad Radgowski with a throw of 228’ 8” (69.71 meters). This season, Corey’s best performance was 215’ 4” (65.65 meters) at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships (Apr. 19) and it is top throw in Division III.
Tim Cook (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) took second in the high jump at the Lions’ Invitational. Cook cleared a height of 6’ 4.75” (1.95 meters). Nehemiah Burney-Porter (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) had a fifth place in the triple jump with 42’ 9.75” (13.05 meters). In the javelin, Sean Biehn (so. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) took fifth. Biehn threw 173’ 10” (52.98 meters).
The 4x400 meter relay took second with a time of 3:30.48 and the 4x100 meter relay was fifth in 45.10. Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) finished fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:29.03) and Greg Kuczynski (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) followed in ninth place (15:48.16). Brian Makinson (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tied for sixth in the high jump with 5’ 10.75” (1.80 meters). Makinson was also 14th in the 400 meters (51.81).
Kevin Gauntt (so. Delanco, NJ/Seneca) came in ninth (17.31) in the 110 meter hurdles while Dan Veres (fr. Howell, NJ/Howell) was ninth (59.52) in the 400 meter hurdles. Stephen Hague (fr. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) had a 10th place in the discus with 134’ 3” (40.92). Nick Tyson took 10th in the pole vault with a height of 13’ 3.5” (4.05 meters).
The Rowan men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Richard Stockton College for the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, May 3.
