GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team shut out Swarthmore College, 7-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Right hander Jackie Sasko (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) pitched six innings for the win. Sasko
(19-2) only gave up three hits. Amanda Riegel (sr. Millville, NJ/Steinert) was on the mound for the final inning.

Third baseman Kristin Wallace (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) recorded three hits (three at bats) and four RBIs. Right fielder Heidi Smith (so. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) went two for four with two doubles and three RBIs. Shortstop Sarah Carangelo (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) contributed with three hits (four at bats) and two were doubles. Second baseman Lauren Navarro (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and first baseman Jenna DiDonato (so. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) each scored two runs.

Rowan has a 31-5 record and is ranked 16th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll. Swarthmore is 20-15 overall. Earlier in the season, Rowan had a 4-0 win at Swarthmore (Mar. 30).

For the Garnet, second baseman Christine Sendelsky (jr. Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens), center fielder Krista Scheirer (fr. Norristown, PA/Germantown Academy) and designated player Kathryn Riley (so. Dagsboro, DE/Indian River) each had a hit. Pitcher Alexandra Zelaski (jr. Middleburg Heights, NJ/Midpark) suffered the loss.

The Profs started the game with one run in the first inning on Wallace’s RBI single. Rowan then added three more runs in the second and third innings. Navarro came home on a sac fly by Smith in the second and Wallace drove in two runs with a single. In the third, Smith doubled in two runs and Wallace followed with a RBI single.

Rowan ends the regular season at Montclair State University on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m.
