GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had a 6-4 victory over Richard Stockton College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday afternoon.
Rowan improves to 27-8 overall and 11-4 in the conference. Richard Stockton has a 20-13 record and a 7-9 NJAC mark. Left hander Ryan Kulik (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) got the win on the mound for the Profs. Kulik (7-2) went eight innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out 13 batters. Righty Kevin O’Hara (jr. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) threw the last inning for his fifth save of the year. Right hander Joe Mihalyi (so. Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) went eight innings and gave up four earned runs for the Ospreys.
Rowan first baseman Tom Ready (jr. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) went three for four with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Designated hitter Tom Reindel (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had two hits (four at bats), a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Center fielder Garrett Mull (jr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape) recorded two RBIs and third baseman Paul Urbanovich (sr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) had one.
For Richard Stockton, second baseman Matt Allen (so. Salem, NJ/Woodstown) compiled three hits (four at bats) and one RBI. Third baseman Jeff Lundell (jr. Henderson, NV/Kentridge (WA)) was one for four with a double and two RBIs. Right fielder Joe Sacerdote (sr. Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed with one hit (four at bats), one RBI and one run scored.
The Ospreys jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Center fielder Chris Discher (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) came home on a ground out by Sacerdote. Lundell doubled down the left field line, scoring first baseman Scott Fisher (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and shortstop Pat Goodwin (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Holy Spirit). Rowan cut the deficit to two (3-1) when Reindel crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Mull in the second.
Allen singled in Sacerdote in the top of the third to give Richard Stockton a 4-1 advantage. Rowan got four runs in the bottom half to go ahead 5-4. Ready doubled in second baseman Joe Franceschini (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and shortstop Roland Rodriguez (so. Miami, FL/Miami Killian). Urbanovich followed with a single through the left side that plated Ready and Urbanovich later scored on an error. The Profs added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Reindel came in on an error.
Rowan hosts NJAC opponent Rutgers-Camden on Friday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m. in its final home game of the regular season. Richard Stockton hosts William Paterson University in a NJAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 26 at noon.
