Rowan Defeats Scranton, 12-5

GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Lauren Crennan scored four goals to lead Rowan University over the University of Scranton, 12-5 on Tuesday evening.

Attack Tori Hart (so. Mt Laurel, NJ/Lenape) contributed with three goals and midfielder Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) added two. Midfielders Trish Harrington (fr. Suffern, NY/Suffern) and Ali Goodman (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and attack Caitlin Meseroll (sr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) had one goal apiece. Midfielder Nicole Valianti (fr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood), Welsh and Harrington each had one assist.

Rowan has a record of 12-3 while Scranton is 8-7 overall. For the Royals, attacks Kristen Marquino (so. Baldwin, NY/Kellenberg Mem.) and Caroline Pryor (fr. Robbinsville, NJ/Notre Dame) both scored twice. Midfielder Diana Rocklein (jr. Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) hit the net one time.

Rowan totaled 37 shots while Scranton only took 12. In the Profs’ net, goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made five saves. Royals’ goalie Cassie Murphy (so. Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) stopped nine shots.

The Profs were ahead 5-4 at the intermission. Rowan scored seven goals in the final half and held Scranton to one. Harrington started the scoring at 33:16 with a pass from Valianti. Welsh had an unassisted goal four minutes later to lead 7-4. Marquino scored the last goal for Scranton with 21:57 remaining. Rowan then had five straight to seal the victory. Crennan (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored twice while Meseroll, Hart and Welsh each had one goal.

In the first period, Pryor gave Scranton a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 1:21. Rowan went ahead with two straight. Crennan scored on a free position (2:26) and Goodman hit the net (4:18) with an assist from Harrington. The Royals went up 3-2 after goals by Rocklein and Pryor. The two teams exchanged goals then Hart scored twice to put Rowan on top 5-4.

Rowan’s last game of the regular season is at The College of New Jersey on Thursday, April 24 at 5 p.m.
