GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team totaled 15 hits in a 9-4 victory over nonconference opponent Haverford College on Tuesday. The win marked head coach Juan Ranero’s 300th of his career.

In 12 seasons, Ranero has a record of 300-217-2. His mark at Rowan stands at 191-114-1 in eight years. This is Ranero’s second stint at the University, his first was from 1994-1998 and he returned in 2006.

Shortstop Roland Rodriguez (so. Miami, FL/Miami Killian) led the Profs with four hits (four at bats), a double, one RBI and three runs scored. First baseman Tom Ready (jr. Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) went two for four with two RBIs and one run scored. Third baseman Paul Urbanovich (sr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) and designated hitter Tom Holmstrom (fr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) each added two hits and one RBI.

Rowan (26-8) platooned its pitchers and six shared in the duties. Starter Michael Halbach (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) got his first win of his career. Halbach pitched 3.1 innings and scattered five hits.

For Haverford (23-11-1), Charlie Carluccio (fr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) suffered the loss. Second baseman Jake Kaden (so. Potomac, MD/Landon School) went three for four with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop Jamie Hollowell (jr. Lafayette, CO/Niwot) had two hits (four at bats) and scored one run. Center fielder Dean Laganosky (jr. Wilmington, DE/Salesianum School) recorded two RBIs.

The Profs went ahead 5-0 after scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second. In the first, Urbanovich singled in a run and Ready came home on a ground out. Urbanovich scored the third run on an error. Second baseman Joe Franceschini (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and Rodriguez both crossed the plate on an error in the second inning.

Haverford got on the scoreboard with one run in the third and Rowan answered with two in the bottom half. With one out, Kaden blasted a solo shot down the left field line for his first home run of the season. Ready drove in the Profs’ two runs with a single.

The Fords trailed 7-4 after three runs in the top of the fourth. Rowan added one more run in the fourth and eighth innings. Rodriguez had a RBI single in the fourth and Holmstrom singled in the run in the eighth.

Rowan returns to its conference schedule when it hosts Richard Stockton College on Thursday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m.
