CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships on Sunday. The men finished in sixth place while the women were 14th overall. The championships were held at DeSales University (Apr. 19-20).

In the field events, Kyle Hayes (fr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) won the long jump with 22’ 2.5” (6.77 meters). Tim Cook (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) took first in the high jump with a height of 6’ 2.75” (1.90 meters). Stephen Hague (fr. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) came in third in the discus with 141’ 9” (43.21 meters). Nick Tyson (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had a third place in the pole vault with 12’ 11.5” (3.95 meters).

Kevin Gauntt (so. Delanco, NJ/Seneca) finished seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (15.79) and Brian Makinson (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was seventh in the high jump (5’ 8.75”, 1.75 meters). Makinson also took 11th place in the 400 meters with a time of 52.39.

In the 1,500 meters, Mike Rivera (jr. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) was eighth (4:15.06) while Eric Thomas (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and Greg Kuczynski (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) were 13th (4:21.58) and 15th (4:24.53) respectively. Andrew Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) was ninth (16:31.21) in the 5,000 meters followed by Brian Quilty (fr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) 10th (16:47.18). Dan Collier (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) finished 14th in the 800 meters (2:05.00). Dan Veres (fr. Howell, NJ/Howell) was 14th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.11) and Phil Dunn (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was 15th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:19.95).

The men’s 4x800 meter relay took fourth (8:33.26) with Rivera, Nick Huddy (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Thomas and Kuczynski. The 4x400 meter relay had a sixth place finish (3:32.08). The relay team consisted of Hayes, Steven Rosado (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Makinson and Collier.

For the women, Michelle Lala (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) had a sixth place in the high jump with 4’ 11” (1.50 meters). Lala also took ninth in the triple jump with 32’ 3.75” (9.85 meters). In the 1,500 meters, Allison Catenacci (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Angela Patane (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) finished fifth (5:11.27) and sixth (5:15.87) respectively. Patane also came in eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:03.83 followed by Katelyn Sammon (sr. Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) 11th (20:29.11) and Laura O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) 13th (21:21.87). Catenacci was 14th in the 400 meters (1:05.26).

On Saturday, Sean Corey (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) won the javelin with a career best of 215’ 5” (65.65 meters). It was a NCAA automatic and better than the automatic (214' 6.5”, 65.39 meters) he recorded at the Wake Forest Invitational (Mar. 21). Corey has the top throw in the Division III. The NCAA automatic requirement is 205’ 1” (62.50 meters). Sean Biehn (so. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) finished eighth in the javelin with 177’ 1” (53.99 meters). Dan Ratty (jr. Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) came in third in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:49.00.
