MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Montclair State University women’s lacrosse team snapped Rowan’s 10 game win streak with a 13-9 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Midfielders Marykate DiBenedetto (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Bethany Blaine (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) led the Red Hawks with five goals apiece. Midfielder Jamie Hudacko (so. Montville, NJ/Montville) contributed with two goals and midfielder Jennifer Tanis (sr. Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) added one.

MSU improves to 6-6 on the season while Rowan has an 11-3 record. For the Profs, attack Lauren Crennan (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored three goals and midfielder Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) followed with two. Midfielders Ali Goodman (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Alayna Morris (so. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.), defender Kaitlyn Molzon (so. Howell, NJ/St. Rose) and attack Alli Dickey (fr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) each had one goal.

Rowan totaled 31 shots while Montclair State took 23. Prof goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made nine saves. Red Hawk goalie Talia Katz (fr. Lower Merion, PA/Lower Merion) stopped 10 shots.

Goodman put Rowan on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal at 1:31. MSU then had four straight goals to lead 4-1. Hudacko, Tanis, Blaine and DiBenedetto each hit the net one time. Dickey scored for the Profs at 17:13 and they trailed 5-3. The Red Hawks followed with three unanswered goals, two from Blaine and one by DiBenedetto, for an 8-3 advantage at the half.

MSU went up 10-3 in the final period after Blaine’s free position goal (31:30) and one by Hudacko (33:01). The two teams exchanged goals three times and the Red Hawks were up 13-6. Rowan ended the game with three goals, one each by Crennan, Molzon and Welsh.

Rowan hosts the University of Scranton for its last home game of the regular season on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m.
