GLASSBORO, NJ – Center fielder Garrett Mull recorded three hits and four RBIs to lead Rowan University over Widener University, 12-5 in a nonconference game on Wednesday.

Mull (jr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape) went three for four with a double and three runs scored. Third baseman Paul Urbanovich (sr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) contributed with four hits (five at bats), two RBIs and one run scored. Second baseman Joe Franceschini (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and designated hitter Tom Holmstrom (fr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) each added two hits and two RBIs. Left fielder Tom Reindel (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had two hits in three at bats and scored two runs.

Right hander Ben Miller (fr. Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) picked up his first win in relief. Miller (1-0) pitched three innings and only gave up one hit. Starter Kevin Culbert (fr. Brookhaven, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) took the loss.

For Widener, pinch hitter Justin Maziarz (fr. Royersford, PA/St. Pius X) had one hit (one at bat) and two RBIs. Third baseman Tom Connelly (so. Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara), second baseman Mike Cahill (jr. Spring Lake, NJ/Sacred Heart University) and center fielder Mike Villari (so. Holland, PA/La Salle) each contributed with one RBI. Designated hitter Josiah Fischer (fr. Navareth, PA/Fleetwood) scored two runs.

Rowan got on the scoreboard first in the third inning. With two outs, Mull singled and advanced to third on shortstop Roland Rodriguez’s (so. Miami, FL/Miami Killian) single. Mull scored before Rodriguez was caught stealing going to second. Widener went up 2-1 in the fourth inning. Josiah Fischer came home on a sacrifice fly by Cahill and Villari walked with the bases loaded to score catcher Matt Fischer (sr. Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic).

The Profs racked up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 9-2. Holmstrom singled in two runs and right fielder John McMullin (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) crossed the plate on a ground out. Mull recorded a two RBI single and he scored on a single by Franceschini. Urbanovich drove in two runs with a single.

In the fifth, Connelly reached base on a fielder’s choice, scoring Josiah Fischer. Rowan answered with three runs in the bottom half. Mull doubled in two runs and came home on a double by Franceschini. Widener’s final two runs came in the ninth when Maziarz had a two RBI single.

Rowan returns to its conference schedule at The College of New Jersey on Thursday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m.
