Rowan Comes Back to Beat No. 16 Stevens Tech, 14-13

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team won 14-13 over 16th ranked Stevens Tech on Wednesday night.

After trailing by four goals (12-8) at the half, Rowan outscored Stevens Tech 6-1 in the final period. The Profs have won 10 straight games and they have an 11-2 record. The Ducks are 9-3 overall.

Attack Caitlin Meseroll (sr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) led Rowan with five goals. Attack Lauren Crennan (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) totaled three goals and two assists while midfielder Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) contributed with three goals. Attacks Stacie McKinley (jr. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) and Tori Hart (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and midfielder Ali Goodman (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added one goal apiece.

For Stevens Tech, attack Alyssa Pigott (so. Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) scored four goals and attack Michelle Buonacuore (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) followed with three goals and one assist. Attack Leah Wasserman (fr. Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Reg.) chipped in with two goals and one assist. Attack Liz Mather (sr. Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) had one goal and two assists while attack Dana Perriello (jr Pittsburgh, PA/Franklin Reg.), midfielder Christine Smith (fr. E. Northport, NY/Northport) and defender Kate Cox (fr. Aston, PA/Sun Valley) each hit the net once.

The Profs took 29 shots while the Ducks totaled 34. Rowan goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) made 18 saves. Stevens Tech goalie Stephanie Linder (sr. Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Reg.) turned away nine shots.

In the second half, Crennan started the Profs’ come back with an unassisted goal at 30:32. Four minutes later, Buonacuore scored and the Ducks were ahead 13-9. It would be their last goal of the game. Rowan then had five straight goals for the victory. Hart had the first one at 39:55 followed by Goodman at 43:20. Meseroll made it 13-12 (46:33) with her fifth goal of the game. Welsh recorded the tying goal (49:38) and the game-winner (53:47).

Stevens Tech started the game with five uanswered goals in the first three minutes. Rowan rallied with three straight to trail by two (5-3) at 12:19. Meseroll, Crennan and Welsh each had a goal. The Ducks went ahead 8-3 after three more goals in a less than a minute. The two teams exchanged goals two more times before the Profs pulled with two (10-8) with a goal by Crennan and two from Meseroll. Buonacuore scored with 2:23 remaining and Cox hit the net with one second left on the clock.

Rowan’s next game is at Montclair State University on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
