BALTIMORE, MD – Attack Lauren Crennan scored six goals and attack Caitlin Meseroll recorded the game winner in Rowan University’s 15-14 come from behind victory over host Goucher College on Tuesday afternoon.
Five of Crennan’s (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) goals came in the second half. She tied the score at 13 with an unassisted goal at 50:35. Her sixth goal on a free position with 4:52 remaining gave the Profs their first lead (14-13) of the game. Midfielder Marlo Tersigni tied the game with a free position goal, 1:43 later. Meseroll (sr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) scored the winning goal with 58 seconds left on the clock.
Rowan has a six game win streak and a 7-2 record. Goucher drops to 1-7 on the season. Attack Alli Dickey (fr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) contributed with four goals. Midfielder Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) and Meseroll had two goals apiece while midfielder Nicole Valianti (fr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) had one.
Goucher was led by Tersigni with six goals. Attack Emily Blatter totaled three goals and four assists. Midfielder Kate Knitter scored three goals. Defender Jenny Lucey and attack Sandy Okun both hit the net one time.
Rowan took 34 shots and Goucher had 25. In the Profs’ net, goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) stopped eight shots. For the Gophers, goalie Brittany Foster made 11 saves.
The Profs trailed 8-3 after the first half. The Gophers went up 10-3 after goals by Tersigni and Blatter. Rowan started its come back with three straight, one goal from Valianti, Dickey and Crennan, that made the score 10-6. Blatter found the net for her second goal then the Profs had three straight. Crennan, Meseroll and Dickey cut the deficit to two (11-9). Goucher came back with two scores then Rowan had five unanswered for a 14-13 advantage. Crennan started the surge and Dickey followed with two goals. Then Crennan recorded her fifth and sixth goals of the contest.
Goucher started the game with three straight goals before Welsh put Rowan on the scoreboard at 8:21. The Gophers pulled away with five more to lead 8-1 with 8:27 left in the period. Crennan and Welsh each scored once which ended the first half.
Rowan’s next game is at Messiah College on Tuesday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m.
