GLASSBORO, NJ – The Franklin & Marshall women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 15-8 on Tuesday.

Midfielder Ashley Bevington (jr. Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) led the Diplomats with five goals and attack Mary Blake Hargest (so. Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul’s School) followed with four. Attack Jen Pritchard (jr. Media, PA/Penncrest) contributed with three goals while midfielders Sarah Meisenberg (jr. Severan Park, MD/Severn School) and Allison Solomon (jr. Damascus, MD/Holy Cross) and attack Shannon Summers (jr. North Walkes, PA/The Hill School) each had one. Summers also compiled five assists.

The Diplomats (1-0) are ranked first in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll. Franklin and Marshall is the defending NCAA Division III national champion. Rowan is 1-1 on the season.

For Rowan, midfielder Kelly Angstadt (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored three goals and attack Lauren Crennan (jr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added two. Crennan also had one assist. Midfielders Carly Welsh (jr. Allenwood, NJ/Wall) and Nicole Valianti (fr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and attack Stacie McKinley (jr. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) had one goal apiece.

F&M totaled 37 shots and Rowan took 30. In the Diplomats’goal, Lidia Sanza (so. Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul’s School) made 12 saves. Profs’ goalie Alicia Mannino (jr. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) stopped 10 shots.

The Diplomats started the game with three straight goals. Summers scored 14 seconds into the game and Bevington had her first at 2:21. Pritchard made it 3-0 at 10:12 with a pass from Hargest. Rowan got on the scoreboard when Angstadt scored on a free position at 17:42. Her second goal pulled the Profs within one (4-3) at 24:37. F&M followed with four unanswered goals to lead 8-3 at the 27th minute. Bevington scored twice while Meisenberg and Hargest each hit the net one time. At the intermission, F&M was ahead 9-4.

Franklin & Marshall started the second half with five straight goals. Pritchard scored twice while Bevington, Solomon and Hargest each added one. The Profs trailed 14-4 then they had goals by Angstadt, Welsh, McKinley and Crennan to cut the deficit to six. Hargest scored the final goal of the game at 59:18.

Rowan travels to fourth ranked Gettysburg on Saturday, March 8 for a 1 p.m. game.
