SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University softball team had a 4-0 victory over Swarthmore College on Sunday.

Rowan improves to 18-3, while Swarthmore is 11-8. Pitcher Jackie Sasko (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) earned the win for the Profs. Sasko (10-1) only allowed three hits in five innings, while striking out eight batters. Pitcher Brianna Seckinger (fr. Churchville, PA/Council Rock S.) threw the last two innings in relief. Kathryn Riley (so. Dagsboro, DE/Indian River) took the loss for the Garnet. She (8-4) pitched a complete game, giving up four runs.

The Profs were led by catcher Stephanie Taraschi (so. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) with three hits (four at bats), one run scored and one RBI. Third baseman Kristin Wallace (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) went two for four with one run scored.

Rowan went ahead 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Sasko singled in right fielder Heidi Smith (so. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) for the first run. Wallace came home on a fielder’s choice by shortstop Sarah Carangelo (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.). Left fielder Amanda Brown (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) drove in Taraschi with a single. In the second inning, center fielder Kristina Brenner (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) reached base on an error. She moved to second on Wallace’s single and stole third. Taraschi followed with a single that plated Brenner.

Rowan travels to William Paterson University for a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
